Below is a description for the Thursday after-school enrichment class taught by Halley Feaster at the Foundation, called, “Playing in the Band”.
The name of the class is actually called “How Music Works”. If the students already play instruments, that’s great – and they should bring them! If not, that’s OK too – non-instrumentalists can feel free to sing along, and I will guide them.
The class will be an introduction to Music Theory, meaning: I will be showing them the elements of music, to have them learn what makes music sound the way it does. We’ll start simply – with “Intervals”, then expand on that to show them Major and Minor Intervals, then Chords, then hopefully we can finish with a nice 4-part composition of our own! We’ll play and sing the different sounds and examples, of course.
