PTA Minutes April 24, 2017
The meeting was called to order at 7:06 by Karen Vaughan, President of the LBI PTA, after which the Flag Salute was recited.
The president called for a motion to approve the January 9th, 2016 Minutes. Sabrina Bonner motioned, Shelly Smith seconded, and all were in favor.

Treasurer’s Report by Sherry Roth:
The balance in the LBI PTA “General Funds” checking account at TD Bank as of today is $34,430.59. The balance of “Games of Chance” checking account at TD Bank is $2,831.66 The total cash balance of $37,262.25 for all accounts combined.
All bills that have been presented to me as of today April 24th, 2017 have been paid. This report was prepared on April 24th, 2017.
Committee Chair Updates:
Yearbook – Kelly Nasti – Due to be delivered June 8th. 6th graders as tradition will receive complimentary yearbooks from the PTA. Jess DiNapoli will be backpacking order forms first week of May.
EJ Garden – Karen Beetel is looking for some help this summer manning the table at the Surf City Farmers Market on Monday mornings from 9:00 until the produce runs out. Sometimes its a few hours, and sometimes its a half-hour. June 26 – August 28th. This is a great way to show local residents what the EJ school is doing. Karen would like to start a curriculum program.
Clothing Drive – Saturday, May 20, 2017. We will take all kinds of items, not just clothing! We can use help loading the truck at 2:30 if anyone can come at this time.
Nominating Committee – we are looking for one or two parents to help Shelly Smith with this position.
Teacher Appreciation week is May 8-12:
Field Day Friday – May 26, 2017 – looking for a few more volunteers to help out with this fun day!
Bay Day – Thursday, June 8th. As of now, there is no rain date.
Graduations Wednesday, June 14, 2017. There are caps and gowns this year for 6th grade.
Thundering Surf – This will continue this year.
Bridgewalk – The 8th Annual Community Bridge Walk will be running on a Sunday this year.
Same time: 10:00am walk, 9:30 Ceremony
Date: September 24, 2017 – Flyers will be out before school ends. Sponsorship forms will also be available.
Old Business –
Tiered Sponsorship – Sherry Roth – the total this year was $7,825.00. Thank you to all who sponsored us!
Enrichment Program – Karen Vaughan – Was a success this year. 59 kids total signed up for Lego Club – something to think about for next year.
Spirit Wear – Bags are still for sale!
Dr. Kopack spoke next – We were proud to hear that our district has seen academic gains in each grade level – overall 20%. According to NJAsk, we are at 92% Advanced Proficient in Science.
Administrative Professional Day is Wednesday, April 26th
Referendum Committee – We will have another year at the LBI school before consolidation takes place, if that happens. Two part question: One about the addition, one about the renovation. If parents have concerns, Dr. Kopack can answer any question they may have and has blueprints showing what the addition will look like. Referendum committee is working on a list of FAQ’s. Voter registration is important!! – everyone is asked to register to vote on the referendum in September so they can have a say in this. We need parents who are LBI residents to register to vote.
Purchase of Books for Library – Mrs. Yeager would like to purchase books for the EJ Library. We have a $200 line item under Miscellaneous that we may be able to use to purchase books for the library.
Sherry Roth – we are considering possible switching to a PTO for next year. We are comparing costs and benefits of the PTA and PTO.
Scholarship – Brianne Meehan – Two are awarded for Academic Excellence and Two for Community Service. June 1 is Scholarship Awards at Southern at 6 p,m. Next year we may take a look at the criteria and change it.
Karen Vaughan made a motion to adjourn at 8:04. Sabrina Bonner seconded. All were in favor.
